With recent high temperatures in the Las Vegas valley averaging roughly 109 degrees over the past week and more on the way, you may be looking for ways to stay cool.

In talking with some locals at an area shopping center, the most common advice was simple: get wet.

"I like to go to the pool and just get in the pool and cool off that way," says one customer at the Flamingo-Arville Plaza.

Another had similar advice, adding something extra for the over 21 crowd, saying "I stay cool at the swimming pool.  That's all I do and drink lots of Modelo beer."

But not everybody agrees that taking a dip in the pool is the best way to beat the heat.  Some locals simply don't go out in the intense sunshine and heat if they can avoid it.

"You gotta stay in the air conditioning -- that's 75 degree weather."

For those who can't stay indoors for one reason or another, there is another option.

"Grab a little towel, wet it, maybe put some ice on it and wrap it around your neck if you have to be outdoors," recommended a beautician at Mia Bella Salon.

No matter how you decide to stay cool this summer, be sure to drink plenty of water and be mindful of the warning signs associated with heat-related illnesses.
