LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The safest drivers in the state of Nevada are in North Las Vegas, according to the insurance research group Insurify.
The award was given based on two main criteria: drivers with the least amount of moving violations on their records and drivers with the least amount of accidents per miles driven.
North Las Vegas police say the award is partly a result of their efforts to promote safe behavior on the roads through education and safety initiatives. One of those initiatives called Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional program promoting safe driving in areas of impaired or distracted driving, pedestrian safety, and speeding.
“It has definitely helped drivers become more aware of their surroundings and of each other,” says Alexander Cuevas, with North Las Vegas Police Department.
Cuevas adds roads are safe in North Las Vegas because of the city’s diversity, which helps drivers stay aware.
“North Las Vegas is such a melting pot, we have a lot of different economic levels, a lot of people who have to use the bus, who have to walk, go all around the valley, and I believe the residents know that,” says Cuevas.
