(KTNV) — A driver is dead after colliding with a tractor trailer on U.S. 95 in the southeast Las Vegas Valley on Friday morning.
Nevada State Police say the crash was reported at 10:13 a.m., south of Russell Road.
According to state police, the tractor trailer was "traveling at a slow speed due to heavy traffic in the area" when a white RAM cargo van crashed into the back of the trailer.
"For unknown reasons, the driver of the white van failed to decrease speed and struck the rear of the trailer," officials stated.
The driver of the van, an adult male who was not publicly identified as of this report, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of the tractor trailer had minor injuries as a result of the collision.
Northbound lanes of U.S. 95 were completely shut down for hours. Nevada State Police said all lanes were reopened at 3:33 p.m.
"We cannot stress the importance of paying full attention while driving," state police officials stated. "Nothing is more important than your life. Drive safe, Nevada."
