Drivers should expect delays along Summerlin Parkway as a safety project gets underway.

The city of Las Vegas will begin construction of a cable barrier safety rail system in the Summerlin Parkway median from Buffalo Drive to 215 Beltway Sunday. Work hours will be 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday night through Friday morning, and 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (daytime hours) Monday through Friday, June 6, to approximately Sept. 7.

Construction is expected to take approximately seven months.

Additional related improvements will include construction of guard rail, removal and replacement of broken stone and gravel mulch, grading and drainage embankment work, and associated landscape and irrigation system modifications. Drivability of the parkway and safety will be a priority during construction. Motorists are encouraged to watch for message boards alerting for changing road conditions and work areas.

Phase 1 work will begin in the Summerlin Parkway median from Buffalo Drive to Rampart Boulevard. The left lane in both directions will remain closed in the work areas from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday evenings to Friday mornings June 5–July 6. During daytime hours 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., only the left shoulders will be closed and all travel lanes will be open to traffic in both directions.

The left lanes in both directions also will be closed from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. from Town Center Drive to the 215 Beltway for approximately two weeks while riprap is removed and fill material is delivered.
