LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — UNLV Athletics has announced the passing of Rebel Football legend Nathaniel "Hawk" Hawkins.
A spokesperson for UNLV said Hawkins died on Jan. 31 in Houston and that his death was related to COVID-19.
Hawkins was the first Rebel to be drafted by the NFL on Feb. 2, 1973, when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the 16th round.
He was inducted into the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the inaugural class as an individual and also as a member of the 1968 football squad that went 8-1 in regular-season play.
