LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is staying upbeat despite reports of another COVID-19 scare for his team.
Early Wednesday, the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted a report from him and Tom Pelissero that "Nearly the entire #Raiders starting defense is going on the COVID-19 list because of high-risk close contacts, but all are eligible to play in the game if they continue to test negatively."
The duo of NFL Network reporters also reported that defensive end Clelin Ferrell tested positive for the coronavirus this week and would likely miss Sunday night’s game at Allegiant Stadium against division-rival and defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
But Gruden was unfazed.
"I don't know about the whole defense. I'm not going to get into what list anybody is on," Gruden said on a press Zoom call Wednesday. "We practiced today and we'll be ready for the game on Sunday."
This is the second time the Raiders are dealing with COVID worries. The first time was during Week 7 on Oct. 25 when their Sunday night game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was rescheduled to earlier that day.
