Las Vegas native earns preseason roster spot at Las Vegas Lights FC open tryout

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — For the third straight year, and ahead of its third season, the Las Vegas Lights Football Club hosted an open tryout at Cashman Field.

More than 400 players from across the country, and around the world, came out to fight for their chance at a roster spot on the team.

Eric Sanchez, a Las Vegas native who graduated from Centennial High School and played soccer in college and after on development league teams, stood out among the hopefuls and caught the attention of Lights Manager Eric Wynalda.

After three rounds of the tryout, the group of 400 was whittled down to 22, including Sanchez.

The Lights kick off the season with an away game on March 7.

The club's home opener will be on March 14 at Cashman Field.
