LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Raiders and UNLV Football may not be the first sports team to take the field at Allegiant Stadium.
A new Washington Post report says the stadium may play host to a major international soccer match.
The stadium is on a shortlist of venues to host a potential match-up between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Las Vegas Lights FC says having a local soccer team may be helping attract international attention.
"I think what the lights have proven is that this is a soccer community. And we are growing in numbers all the time," said Eric Wynalda, Las Vegas Lights FC manager.
A matchup like this will open doors for Las Vegas to host larger sporting events and put more spotlight on the city as a potential MLS expansion city.

"Let me be very honest with what’s going on. They decide to put these kinds of games in our city, what that means is things are rolling in the right direction," said Wynalda.
The Lights hope this event does happen because they believe it will only push them, the city and others to take Las Vegas more seriously as a soccer town.
For now, the Lights are gearing up for their 3rd season right here at Cashman Field, and we will know shortly if a match-up will take place at the soon to be opened Allegiant Stadium.
