Golden Knights' Ryan Carpenter nominated for sportsmanship award

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Golden Knights forward Ryan Carpenter is the Vegas Golden Knights 2019 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy nominee, as selected by the Las Vegas chapter of the Professional Hockey Writer’s Association (PHWA).

The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is an annual award under the trusteeship of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association and is given to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.

Carpenter has recorded a career-high 17 points (5 G, 12 A) in 62 games for the Golden Knights to go with six penalty minutes this season.

He has also recorded 113 total hits this season, which ranks fifth on the team. During the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he appeared in 17 games and recorded five assists.

An undrafted, free-agent out of Bowling Green State University, the Oviedo, FL native signed with the San Jose Sharks on March 26, 2014.

Carpenter has collected 36 points (16 G, 20 A) in 126 career games to go with 21 penalty minutes since making his debut with the Sharks on December 12, 2015.

He was claimed by the Golden Knights on December 13, 2017 after being waived by San Jose.

The winner is selected in a poll of all chapters of the PHWA at the end of the regular season.
