LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — There's another concern about reopening schools during the pandemic - what to do with school buses?
With poor air circulation and no room to social distance, health officials are worried busses will become the perfect place for COVID-19 to spread.
When fully loaded with kids, most school buses fit about 77 students.
The Centers for Disease Control is advising buses have only one student per bench, taking some bus capacity down to about 12 kids.
This means school districts would need to run double or triple the number of trips each day.
School transportation expert David Strong says the other problem is there's a nationwide bus driver shortage.
So even if extra busses are available, schools wouldn't be able to run more.
