LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Working from home and learning from home doesn't have to mean a bunch of sitting around. A local program is helping you get active again, to help you keep your sanity. 13 Action News anchor Tricia Kean looks at some fun and free exercise classes for the whole family.

FUN FITNESS

Fitness Instructor Jeannine Mason is in the business of fun! It's right there in the name of her class, Fun Fitness with Jeannine.

"Whole families are tuning in. I actually have some communities that are tuning in that aren't even here in Las Vegas," Jeannine said.

CLASSES ONLINE

Jeannine teaches cardio and strength training for seniors, plus yoga. It used to be in-person. But when the pandemic hit, her classes moved online.

Dignity Health is offering Jeannine's classes, plus a long list of others absolutely free. There's something for every age and skill level: from Tai Chi and Zumba to Strong Nation: a high-intensity muscle-conditioning workout. Jeannine says the virtual classes are a hit.

KID CLASSES TOO

"It's broken down barriers. Some people may be intimidated to come into a classroom setting... Some of them are on camera, some are not and some have admitted to being in their pajamas at two in the afternoon. I'm like it's alright, just come out anyway and exercise," Jeannine said.

Best of all, the kids aren't left out.

"Giselle has been taking the class since she was eight months old," said Maribel, a valley mom.

She says her 4-year-old never misses Toddler Time with Miss Tawanda.

SINGING & DANCING

"She is fun. She lets us spin around the classroom and I like jumping," Giselle said.

Tawanda Evans-McIntosh tailors her class for families with children under the age of five with singing, dancing, and storytime.

"You're going to have laughter from beginning to end because laughter is the food to the soul... We talk about counting, one through 10. We talk about colors, have a color song. We also engage in social, imaginary play," Tawanda said.

GET THEIR ENERGY UP

Other classes for the little ones include an Infant Development Playground class, Zumba for 7 to 11-year-olds and Yoga for all ages.

"I'm all about let's get them moving. Let's get their energy up. That way they can eat their lunch and then a nice little nap afterwards" said Tawanda.

CONSULT A DOCTOR

Giselle loves taking Miss Tawanda's class online. But she does have one small critique.

"I miss hugging you and dancing with you and doing all the stuff with you in the classroom," said Giselle.

Remember exercise can boost the immune system, helping your body fight off infections. Just be sure to consult a doctor when exercising with or recovering from COVID-19.
