LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — There's a good chance what was once your home is now your home, your office, your school and your events center.

Privacy? Gone.

Peace and quiet? Out the window.

More and more people are looking for a place to escape. 13 Action News Anchor Tricia Kean tells us about a company providing a custom getaway for its customers.

PLACE TO ESCAPE

Pamela's a grandmother who says her life was turned upside down at the start of the pandemic.

"I wound up taking on the wonderful responsibility and task of homeschooling my granddaughters," said Pamela.

CONVERTING THE DINING ROOM

Pamela says her home was quickly transformed into a space for teaching second and fourth grade.

"At first we started converting the dining room into a schoolroom," she explained, "with desks where the dining room table would be, which left us having our meals on the sofa."

UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND

Pamela says she eventually started looking for an alternative space. Her online hunt led her to Studio Shed.

Many others, too.

"We are experiencing unprecedented demand right now," said Studio Shed Co-Founder Jeremy Nova.

HOME OFFICES

He says business is booming with projects in nearly all 50 states.

"We are seeing growth in Nevada and the Las Vegas area," Nova said.

"We have a few projects going on there right now. Home offices, obviously, there's a big demand for right now."

"But we are seeing places for kids to study," he added, "things like that. Home gyms even."

RESIDENTIAL QUALITY BUILDING

These luxury sheds are no joke.

With a typical price of $25,000 to $30,000, they need to be built to last.

"It is truly a residential quality building. It isn't just like a hot shed in your backyard," said Nova.

"It's built to a high-end residential standard with insulation, electrical -- all those things. It's much more an extension of your home."

That's exactly how Pamela feels.

"Having this brand new super well insulated, super well built, wonderful shed," she said, "it's like, this is what I want to live in."

STRESSFUL SITUATION TURNED POSITIVE

Pamela says it turned out to be the perfect place for her granddaughters.

"So we use the shed for some of our projects. I do sometimes art stuff, sometimes we just do writing projects in the shed."

"It kind of turned something that was stressful into something that was really exciting and positive," said Pamela.

Studio Shed can handle utility and building permits when required.

The timeline from order to install is currently about three to six weeks.
