LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Home schooling in the valley is growing at a fast rate over the last decade as more parents are opting to trade in the traditional classroom to be closer to their kids.

There are a lot of misconceptions about home schooling; some have questions and opinions about what it takes.

Here in Nevada, the Department of Education says if a parent wants to home-school their child, they are required to submit a notification of intent to their local school district.

The State trusts the districts to handle the home-school responsibilities.

The Clark County School District received 2,165 notices of intent to home-school forms last school year.

During the 2017-2018 school year, 1866 notices of intent to home-school and in 2016 to 2017 1,570.
