A new local organization is hoping to open new doors for women in the hospitality and culinary industry in Las Vegas.

The Women's Hospitality Initiative is hosting an event tonight at UNLV that will focus on growing the number of female restaurant owners and chefs.

Right now, the numbers are low for women who hold executive positions in hospitality and culinary fields in Las Vegas.

Elizabeth Blau, founder and CEO of Blau and Associates and co-funder of the Women's Hospitality Initiative, is hoping to change that.

Blau says that when she arrived in Las Vegas 22 years ago, it was a boys' club.

Since then, Blau has become known as a pioneer in hospitality and restaurant entrepreneur and has vowed to change the status quo for women in the industry.

The event tonight at UNLV will begin with a film screening. It is sold out.
