Families are invited to Whitney Pool for a "Splash Into Summer" celebration on May 25.
The event will include a barbecue from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. along with ice cream from Anderson Dairy. A movie, Disney Pixar's "Coco," will also be shown at Whitney Park starting at 8 p.m.
Families can also swim at the pool, and registration will be open for swimming lessons, water aerobics, and other special youth activities offered by Clark County Aquatics this summer.
The event is free to the public.
Children must be accompanied by an adult to see the movie in the park. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and pillows.
Whitney Pool is located at 5712 East Missouri Avenue, just off Boulder Highway south of Tropicana Avenue.
The event is sponsored by Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson, the County's Parks and Recreation Department, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Safety Through OUtreach and Prevention (STOP) Coalition.
Clark County officials would also like to remind the public about the following ways to prevent drowning:
- Patrol - Always designate an adult Water Watcher to actively watch children in the water, including pools, bathtubs, or other bodies of water.
- Protect - Install barriers between your home and pool to ensure safety including fences, door alarms, locks, and spa safety covers. Lock doggie doors so that children can't crawl through them.
- Prepare - Create a water safety plan for your family. Enroll children in swimming lessons, take adult CPR classes, and be sure to equip your pool with proper safety equipment including life jackets, personal floatation devices, and rescue tools. If an emergency happens, have a telephone nearby to call 911
