LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — With kids heading back to the classroom, school supplies are high in demand. But the cost of pencils, folders and crayons can add up quickly for families who don’t have much.

United Way of Southern Nevada, the Public Education Foundation and Las Vegas area parents and volunteers are working together to host a school supply drive to build student "Welcome Back" bags next week.

The bags will be distributed to local students next month as they return to in-person instruction.

So far they plan to give 1,200 students bags with new pencils, crayons, fruit snacks, and even stress balls. But the goal is to give out bags to every kid in the school district.

United Way is calling for volunteers to put goodie bags together, as well as money, school supplies and snack donations to fill them.

Volunteers can sign up to assemble "Welcome Back" bags for students at the UWSN office on Flamingo Road on March 2 and March 3 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
