UNLV senior Karina Lopez was selected as a recipient of the 2016 Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship. Each year two $4,500 scholarships are given to two students, one in Northern Nevada and one in Southern Nevada, who are pursuing a degree in education with the intention to teach in Nevada upon graduation.
Lopez graduated from Silverado High School in 2013 and is currently pursuing her degree in Early Childhood Education.
State Treasurer Dan Schwartz congratulated Lopez on her achievements and noted the excellent records of community service and academic achievements of all applicants for the scholarship.
The award was created in 2011 by the Nevada State Government to honor former Governor Kenny C. Guinn, who tragically passed away in 2010.
