Community leaders, UnitedHealth Group executives, UNLV leadership, and health care professionals attended a special event Tuesday to announce a multi-million dollar grant from United Health Foundation to the UNLV School of Medicine.
"This is our first grant," said Barbara Atkinson, School of Medicine founding dean. "It's $3 million and it's to do wonderful things for our curriculum and for patients here in Las Vegas."
According to United Health Foundation’s America’s Health Rankings, Nevada has an extreme shortage of physicians.
The Silver State ranks in the bottom 5 states (47th) in the number of doctors per 100,000 people in nearly every medical specialty.
