Surveys: Vegas No. 1 summer vacation destination

Las Vegas has long been considered a popular vacation destination but a recent study found it is the No. 1 place to visit this summer, according to two different surveys.

According to TripAdvisor, the average cost of a one-week trip to Las Vegas is $2,224, including an average nightly hotel rate of $135, roundtrip airfare of $384, meal cost $31 and tour expenses $122.

Now when is the best time to book a vacation?

According to the TripAdvisor study, travelers can save 13 percent on the peak summer rates by booking a stay between Aug. 15 and Aug. 21.

The value hotel is The Carriage House for an average nightly rate of $127 while the top attraction is the Blue Man Group with tickets starting at $90 per person.

The other top destinations, in order, include Cancun, Mexico; Orlando, Fla.; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; New York City; London; Destin, Fla.; Paris and Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

WalletHub also ranked Las Vegas as the No. 1 summer destination within the United States, over Salt Lake City, Orlando, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Greenville, S.C., Charleston, S.C., Houston and Sacramento.

WalletHub based their numbers of the cost of the cheapest flight to number of attractions and diversity of activities.
