LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Spread the Word Nevada (STWN), the largest children’s literacy nonprofit in the state, received a $30,000 donation from Southwest Gas Corporation on Giving Tuesday to help purchase a delivery truck.
Spread the Word Nevada is in desperate need to replace its box truck primarily used for delivering books to 62 Title I elementary schools in Clark County.
This donation from Southwest Gas kicks off on Giving Tuesday and the goal of raising between $60-90,000 dollars to purchase a truck.
Originally purchased in 2013, the current 26-foot box truck with lift gate is a 2007 edition with an odometer reading of 221,142 miles. It has completed regular routes around the valley, delivering an estimated 3,850,000 books over seven years.
Frequent and costly repairs require replacing the truck in order to keep the pages turning for over 60,000 at-risk children in Nevada.
