RiSE Lantern Festival returned to the Mojave desert just outside of Las Vegas on Oct. 7 and 8.
The recently expanded festival welcomed 20,000 people throughout the country, with more than 80 percent of attendees coming from outside Nevada. Over 40,000 biodegradable lanterns were sent skyward, and each night was capped off with a fireworks display.
As part of the festival's Leave No Trace policy, organizers are now in the process of cleaning the event space and surrounding areas. 145 people have already logged in over 100 labor hours to fetch the lanterns. Crews will remain on cleaning duty for another two days.
