Reid announces $2 million in grants for Nevada public safety efforts

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid has announced about $2 million in funding for Nevada public safety efforts through federal grant programs.

The grants stem from Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters, Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response and Urban Search and Rescue grant programs.
 
A breakdown of the grants is below:
 
The AFG and SAFER grant programs awarded $387,488 to the City of Elko Fire Department, $372,500 to the Clark County Fire Department and $54,710 to the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. These funds will provide the necessary resources to hire and retain fire fighters in both Elko and Clark counties as well as the city of Las Vegas.
 
The Urban Search and Rescue Response System in Clark County will receive $1,187,582 in grants. These funds will aid in providing qualified personnel, administrative and program management, training, equipment, maintenance and storage. This task force is responsible for disaster response and maintaining a high standard of preparedness.
