Kenta Yap, a 7th grad student at Bob Miller Middle School in Henderson, has won a year of college tuition valued at just over $6,000.
It will be worth even more by the time Yap starts college in 2021.
Yap was selected as the winner from more than 400 students in Southern Nevada who entered the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Contest.
The tuition can be used in-state or out-of-state at any college or university.
Yap wants to be a professional chef when he grows up. The check was presented by Nevada State Treasurer Dan Schwartz.
This was the fourth year for the contest.
