UPDATE ON DEC. 21: After more than 167,000 votes were cast from Nov. 28 through Dec. 17, Boyd Gaming announced the winners for Trees of Hope.
First place winners received $2,000, second place received $1,500, and those in third place got $1,000. The remaining charities each received $425.
A valleywide social media contest also awarded an additional $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000 in cash to the top three charities respectively.

ORIGINAL STORY
Boyd Gaming's annual Trees of Hope competition is underway.
Local nonprofits have decorated trees at various properties around town in hopes of win cash prizes.
The trees can be seen at Aliante, California, Cannery, Gold Coast, The Orleans, Sam's Town and Suncoast.
The public is invited to vote for their favorite trees between Nov. 28 and Dec. 17. Votes will be collected at each property and on the Boyd Gaming Facebook page. Prizes will be awarded to the trees that receive the most votes on site and the trees that receive the most votes online.
Some of the participating nonprofits are Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, P.A.W.S., FIRST Nevada, USO Las Vegas, Disabled American Veterans, Olive Crest, 9th Island Cultural Club of Las Vegas, The Public Education Foundation, Desert Divas for Dogs and Lutheran Social Services of Nevada.
