The College of Southern Nevada is urging this year’s high school seniors to apply for a Nevada Promise Scholarship before the Oct. 31 deadline.
The scholarship would mean an almost tuition-free college degree.
At CSN, the Nevada Promise Scholarship Program serves 2,400 students. More than 850 recent high school graduates are waiting for consideration to receive funding as they are currently completing registration for the fall 2020 semester.
Nevada Promise is a state-funded program that will pay tuition and mandatory fees that are not covered by other forms of financial aid for those who are eligible. This last-dollar scholarship is available to eligible participants up to three years or the completion of their program of study.
In addition to the financial benefits, students in the program are also assigned a mentor who can help guide them through college. The MGM Foundation has sponsored the Nevada Promise Mentoring Program since 2018.
The college has 248 program mentors, new and returning, who have provided more than 6,000 mentoring sessions to high school seniors and college students since 2017.
At CSN, Nevada Promise students have provided 113,300 hours of volunteer service to our Southern Nevada community. The top five organizations working with our students are Three Square, Opportunity Village, Springs Preserve, Project 150 and Spread the Word Nevada.
