Jasmine Gilbert from East Career Technical Academy was selected to join 320 students from 36 countries and 30 U.S. states to participate in a space-themed leadership program at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
The program, called the Honeywell Leadership Challenge Academy, allowed students to participate in various science, technology, engineering, and math-related activities. The students were able to go through astronaut training and shuttle missions, including a moon walk. They also built and tested rockets, competed in outdoor activities like a ropes course and climbing wall, and met NASA scientists, engineers, and former astronauts.
