LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas City Councilman Cedric Crear and Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II have announced the names of 36 leaders and icons of the Historic Westside who will be recognized within the currently under construction Legacy Park.
Construction on Historic Westside Legacy Park, a partnership between the city of Las Vegas and Clark County, is underway at 1600 Mount Mariah Drive and is scheduled to be completed this year.

The list of 2021 honorees for Legacy Park includes: William “Bob” and Anna Bailey; Shirley Barber; Marion Bennett; Larry Bolden; Hattie Canty; Dr. John and Barbara Crear; Ruby Duncan; Huedillard “H.P.” Fitzgerald; James Gay; Theron and Naomi Goynes; Judge Addeliar Guy; J. David Hoggard; Mabel Hoggard; John Howell; Lubertha Johnson; Charles Keller; Sarann Knight-Preddy; Dr. Esther Langston; Dr. James McMillan; Daisy Miller; Det. Herman Moody; Sen. Joe Neal; Commissioner William U. and Maggie Pearson; Louis and Vicki Richardson; Jesse Scott; Dr. William W. Sullivan; Helen Toland; Dr. Charles I. West; Brenda and Monroe Williams; and Woodrow Wilson.

The community submitted nominees and a panel of community volunteers selected the honorees. The announcement of the Legacy Park honorees was part of the annual African-American Trailblazer Service Awards Program this morning. Due to pandemic safety precautions, the event was not open to the public, but was livestreamed from the Las Vegas City Hall Council Chambers.

Former Clark County Commissioner and City Councilman Lawrence Weekly also attended today’s event as he has been one of the visionaries behind the park concept.
Legacy Park is a tribute to the many trailblazers who have led the community through the years. The park will incorporate unique elements, such as a timeline of the Historic Westside and an interpretive walking trail. It also will include public artwork and the stories of the Westside, along with trees, landscaping and a playground. The new park is being constructed in the heart of the Enterprise Park development near West Lake Mead and Martin L. King boulevards.
The cost of the park is $3.2 million and CORE Construction is the contractor. LGA Architecture has designed the park that will embrace the mid-century modern style.
