It may not seem like it but Las Vegas turned 111 Sunday.

On May 15, 1905, a railroad company auctioned off 110 acres of land between Stewart Avenue to the north, Garces Avenue to the south, Main Street to the west and Fifth Street (also known as Las Vegas Boulevard) to the west.

The city was then incorporated in 1911. However, most of what is known as the Las Vegas Strip (besides the Stratosphere) has never been incorporated and is actually in Clark County.

A lot has changed in 111 years, from the divorce ranches in the 1930s, to the legalization of gambling, to the significant growth in the past 30 years, making Las Vegas the city it is today.
