North Las Vegas Fire Department gives teen with cancer a ride home from hospital

Posted

A local teen got a surprise as he left Summerlin Hospital for cancer treatment Tuesday afternoon.

Bonanza High School student Johnathan Rubio was surprised by the North Las Vegas Fire Department, which gave him a ride home.

Rubio, who is battling leukemia, is a member of North Las Vegas' Junior Explorers program. He hopes to be a firefighter one day.

Despite the pain, he remains strong and has a sense of humor despite his illness.

"To lose your hair, that's another big thing. I was fine with it," Rubio said. "I think I look pretty good bald. I'm OK. I feel good. I'll get through this, I can do it."
