LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Mammovan is in town, offering breast cancer screenings to women in Las Vegas during Breast Cancer Awareness month.
"The Mammovan is basically a mammogram on wheels," said Vicky Tracy with Nevada Health Centers Mammovan.
When the Mammovan rolled through Las Vegas in 2015, Sherry Brady knew it was an opportunity to check out a lump on her left breast.
Two to three weeks after getting her mobile mammogram, Brady received her diagnosis: stage three triple negative breast cancer.
"Its a rare form of cancer and it's very aggressive, but it's easily treated," Brady said.
Now, Brady is cancer-free.
"I was a widow and didn't have any extra money to pay for a mammogram," said Brady. "I'm cancer free and I thank Mammovan for that. I believe it would have been a death sentence."
Nevada Health Centers operates the Mammovan, giving women across the state the same life-saving opportunity.
"We go all throughout Nevada and we take care of women who are 40 and over that would not be able to have a mammogram because of insurance or low income," Tracy said.
The Mammovan is outside of Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada on Monday from 8 a.m. through 3:40 p.m.
Organizers ask that patients make an appointment ahead of time and fill out paperwork before their appointment.
If you're not able to make an appointment on Monday, the Mammovan will be in Las Vegas three more days this week.
