A new dog rescue in Las Vegas is crossing borders to save the lives of golden retrievers worldwide.
Goldens Without Borders pays to have the dogs taken out of meat markets and slaughterhouses to bring them to America for a second chance at life.
Golden retriever Abby recently took her first steps in America. She had been scheduled to be killed last Friday at a kill shelter in South Korea. But thanks to Goldens Without Borders, Abby gets a second chance at life.
"It really is saving one life at a time," said Sheila Oliveria.
Goldens Without Borders works with good-hearted people in countries like Taiwan, Turkey, Mexico, China and South Korea to bring dogs to America that would have otherwise been killed.
"There's a great need in these countries given the circumstances that they're in with the dog meat market and strays on the street and slaughterhouses," Oliveria said.
Abby is going to a new foster family who will welcome the dog with open arms.
"I think for golden retrievers they look for that human interaction and they don't get it," Oliveria said.
Goldens Without Borders just got clearance to bring 15 more golden retrievers to America that were rescued from meat markets in China.
