LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — New vending machines in Las Vegas make helping others in the community, and around the world, as easy as buying a bag of chips or a can of soda.
As part of its annual #LightTheWorld campaign, Downtown Summerlin unveiled four Giving Machines on Thursday. The machines will be available through Jan. 2.
The concept is simple: the machines allow users to provide an act of service with a card swipe, just like purchasing items from a vending machine.
"The problem you have with giving a gift to someone is did you spend enough money," said Las Vegas headliner Donny Osmond, who is part of the #LightTheWorld campaign. "Did you spend too much money? And are they obligated to give you a gift back?"
"This makes it so anonymous that it takes away all of those horrible dynamics away from gift giving," he explained.
Items range in price from $2 to $320.
They include a range of staples such as laundry pods, backpack and school supplies, exam fees, eyeglasses, cataract surgery, dental exams, group community outings, fresh produce, meals, Polio vaccines, chickens and more.
Charities participating in the Las Vegas #LightTheWorld Giving Machine:
- Three Square
- Eye Care 4 Kids
- Communities In Schools of Nevada
- Future Smiles
- Opportunity Village
- UNICEF
- Church World Services Global
Only credit and debit cards are accepted. No cash donations.
Downtown Summerlin is located on 1980 Festival Plaza Drive.
