Residents of the Las Vegas valley are invited to review and provide input on one of three proposed alternatives for the new downtown Las Vegas master plan.
Public preference and input regarding these alternative plans will be used to further inform and shape the plan prior to finalization next spring.
- Alternative 1: Cultural Capital – focus on incentivizing development at Symphony Park, area surrounding Bonneville Transit Center
- Alternative 2: Lifestyle Hubs – focus on mixed-use development around transit hubs
- Alternative 3: Centers of Excellence – focus on maximizing economic activity by investing in key industries (green tech, tourism and culture, creative and medical)
The alternatives were developed by a leading global architecture and urban design firm who conducted more than 100 stakeholder interviews, held public outreach meetings, and met with numerous community and city leaders over the last several months.
The goal of this outreach is to better understand the current downtown landscape and gather feedback and public input on the challenges and opportunities for downtown from the perspective of those who live and work in the area.
According to Tom Perrigo, director of Planning, city of Las Vegas, the revitalization of downtown Las Vegas in recent years has been nothing short of remarkable, but there is still much work to do to ensure the area reaches its full potential. “We continue to solicit public and stakeholder input on this very important initiative to ensure at the end of the process, we have a plan that our community understands, owns and embraces. It’s a tall order to develop a master plan for the next two decades. That’s why we need everyone’s ideas to ensure we are on track and to ultimately create a plan that reflects the collaborative nature of this process.”
The Downtown Master Plan is one of several initiatives that are part of a city-wide master planning effort, “City By Design” that is creating a strategic vision for the city’s future.
