The Downtown Project is accepting applications for "Thumbnail," a designer-in-residence program providing artists the opportunity to develop their skills by working on projects for local businesses.
Starting in fall 2016, designers selected for the program will receive three months of free housing at the 211 Apartments as well as a monthly stipend of $1,000, reimbursement of up to $1,000 in material costs and complimentary membership to local creative spaces including Work in Progress and Stitch Factory.
“We are very excited for the Thumbnail artist-in-residence to help us carry out our mission of developing the Fremont East District in Downtown Las Vegas into an art and technology center,” said Maggie Hsu, Thumbnail co-founder. “This program will connect talented designers with emerging startups and local business owners, giving them the ability to help shape the growing community.”
Designers will help businesses work on graphic design projects such as brand identity and logos, iconography, marketing materials, brand collateral, and promotional items. Each participant will present a final project at the end of their residency as well as an overview of their experience to the downtown community.
Participants will be mentored by Jen Taler from Stitch Factory, a fashion studio and brand house in Downtown Las Vegas, and mentors at Work in Progress, a tech workspace that hosts classes, mentor office hours and community events.
