The 5th annual Downtown Throwdown Barbecue Championships are happening this weekend at the Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas.
The event will feature a chili cook-off and barbecue cook-off. The public will be able to enjoy delicious samples of chili, ribs, chicken, brisket and pork from some of the best cowboy cooks around. Over 32 teams from all over the western half of the United States will compete for their share of a $10,000 prize purse and a shot at an invite to one of two World Championship contests.
The chili cook-off will begin at 4 p.m. Dec. 9. The barbecue cook-off will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 10.
Patrons will decide the “People’s Choice” winner by purchasing 2 oz. sampling cups for $1 each. Every 10 samples purchased earns 1 ticket to vote for the “People’s Choice.” Additional private judging will be held to award first, second and third place in various categories.
The awards ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 on the 3rd Street Stage.
