April 12 is National Grilled Cheese Day and the perfect excuse to eat one of the most popular comfort foods in the world.
It is believed that the ancient Romans were the first to make a cooked bread and cheese sandwich.
The classic American grilled cheese sandwich featuring just three ingredients (bread, cheese and butter) emerged in the 1920s. Now it is a staple in cafes, diners and school cafeterias across the country.
There's definitely no shortage of places to find a delicious grilled cheese sandwich in Las Vegas.
Tom's Urban at New York-New York offers a grilled fig jam and three-cheese sandwich. The sandwich features a delightful blend of fontina, brie and havarti on butter-toasted sourdough. Grilled cheese lovers can also add applewood smoked bacon to the sandwich. Cost is $13 and $15 respectively.
The short rib grilled cheese at Fat Choy inside Eureka Casino features onion jam and both provolone and cheddar cheese in addition to the meat. It is served with a tomato dip. Cost is $10.

Bin 702's Twice As Good Grilled Cheese features toasted country bread and creamy cheeses selected by the chef. Cost is $9 each. For the kiddos, Bin 702 offers grilled cheese fingers, which is American cheese on toasted bread ($5). Bin 702 is located at the Downtown Container Park.
Luke's Lobster at Fashion Show Mall offers a lobster (of course) grilled cheese sandwich. However, it's only offered during the winter months. The sandwich features lobster and melted gruyere cheese on organic white bread from Maine. Cost is $13.
If you are looking for a "killer" grilled cheese, head to eat in downtown Las Vegas. The sandwich features aged cheddar cheese on sourdough bread and it's served with "kick-ass" tomato soup for just $9.
Not Your Mama's Grilled Cheese at Truffles N Bacon on Eastern Avenue is actually a grilled cheese panini made with brisket, bacon jam, grilled tomato, sauteed kale and chipotle ranch. Cost is $11. Served with a small side of mixed greens tossed in balsamic vinaigrette.
McFadden's at Town Square, has an entire night dedicated to grilled cheese sandwiches. The Grilled Cheese Palooza and Margarita Night happens every Tuesday. They offer a special $8 grilled cheese menu and $6 margaritas.
Fat Choy isn't the only place that features short ribs on their grilled cheese sandwich. The sandwich at Echo & Rig Butcher and Steakhouse at Tivoli Village also features short ribs with gruyere, parmesan and white cheddar cheese. Cost is $12.

Culinary Dropout at the Hard Rock offers a trio of grilled cheese sliders with bacon and tomato for $12.
The Ultimate Grilled Cheese at Rachel's Kitchen (several locations) is also made with three different kinds of cheese (gruyere, cheddar and parmesan). It also features roasted tomatoes. Cost is $8.75.
The grilled cheese sandwich at the Yard House is served with a tomato bisque. The sandwich, priced at $11.45, features roasted tomato, four kinds of cheeses (cheddar, gorgonzola, Swiss and fontina) and artisan bread.
Aces & Ale, which has two locations, offers five grilled cheese sandwiches. The beer belly sandwich is an "amped up" version of the traditional sandwich. The caprese grilled cheese features mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, extra virgin oil, cracked pepper and fresh basil. The moondog grilled cheese features provolone cheese, hard salami and pepperoni, chopped olives and jalapeno peppers, Fire-roasted poblano peppers, grilled tomatoes, caramelized onions and pepper jack cheese can be fond on the roasted poblano sandwich. There is also a sandwich featuring cheddar cheese, green apples and applewood bacon. Prices range from $8 to $11. Add a cup of "best ever beer cheese soup" or creamy tomato basil soup for $3.
The Three-Way Parlay grilled cheese sandwich offered by the Stripchezze food truck features 3 cheeses dripping with melted goodness on parmesan crusted sourdough bread. Their Hot Streak grilled cheese sandwich features pepper jack cheese with jalapeno poppers served on sourdough that is in crusted in flaming' hot Cheetos. In addition, the Jam On It sandwich features muenster cheese and sliced tomatos served with housemade bacon jam on parmesan crusted sourdough. Sandwiches cost between $5 and $8 and the menu is subject to change.
