2016 Veterans Day Events, Deals in Las Vegas

Veterans Day is observed annually on Nov. 11. The purpose of the day is to honor men and women who have served in the military. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

EVENTS

KINE VETERANS FUND POPPY DRIVE -- NOV. 6-11
Kine Veterans Fund, a local charity, will be outside 3 Walmart locations (Centennial Hills, Fort Apache & Tropicana and Rainbow & Spring Mountain), Sam's Club (Centennial Hills) and Albertsons (Trails Center) for their Poppy Drive Nov. 6-11/ The local group provides assistance to veterans in crisis situations. 100 percent of the proceeds from the poppy sales will go to veterans.

VETERANS DAY PARADE -- NOV. 11
The annual Veterans Day Parade will start at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 in Downtown Las Vegas. The parade will be hosted by Good Morning Las Vegas anchors Beth Fisher and Dayna Roselli. It will primarily take place on 4th Street between Charleston Boulevard and Ogden Avenue.The parade will be rebroadcast on COX Chanel 96 multiple times between Nov. 20 and Dec. 3.

CAR SHOW & BBQ AT VA SNV HEALTHCARE SYSTEM -- NOV. 11
The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is hosting a car show and free BBQ from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m Nov. 11 at the medical center on Pecos Road. There will also be a health and service fair, stage show with numerous performers, a Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Celebration, appearances by Count's Kustoms and Miss Nevada, a Kids Zone and more.

GARY SINISE & THE LT. DAN BAND ON FREMONT STREET -- NOV. 11
Fremont Street Experience will feature a free concert from Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band. The concert kicks off Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. on the 1st Street Stage. There will be an opening performance by country music artist Phil Vandel. Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band will take the stage directly after. The concert will be attended by approximately 150 veterans and their loved ones who are in town for the 4th annual Salute to the Troops. It will also be open and free to the general public.

CAPTAIN AMERICA AT NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE -- NOV. 11
In honor of Veterans Day, Madame Tussauds Las Vegas and Marvel will reveal its Captain America wax figure at Nellis Air Force Base on Nov. 11.  The exclusive appearance by Captain America marks the first time the figure will be revealed in Las Vegas, in advance of its upcoming debut at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. The life-size figure is based off of Chris Evans’ portrayal of this iconic superhero. The wax figure will be on display during NAFB's annual open house on Nov. 12 and 13 and guests will have the opportunity to "meet" and take selfies with Captain America.

THROW DOWN ACTION SPORTS & MUSIC FESTIVAL -- NOV. 12
All veterans and active duty military will be admitted free to the Throw Down Action Sports & Music Festival in Downtown Las Vegas. The 85,000-square-foot Downtown Las Vegas Events Center will transform into a state-of-the-art action sports playground with impressive lighting and sound elements as well as DJs and live music. Olympic athletes and X-Games Gold Medalists are set to compete, including BMX rider, Daniel Sandoval and freestyle skier, Nick Goepper along with pro snowboarders, Dennis Bonus from Team Red Bull and Team USA’s, Jaeger Bailey. GLITTERING LIGHTS -- NOV. 11
Nevada's largest holiday drive-thru light show opens Nov. 11 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Veterans will be admitted free on that day (with proper ID). Glittering Lights features more than 3 million lights on a 2.5-mile course. It has been a tradition for 16 years. A portion of each ticket benefits Speedway Children’s Charities Las Vegas Chapter.

13TH ANNUAL MILITARY CULINARY COMPETITION -- NOV. 12
Tropicana Las Vegas is teaming up with the Military Hospitality Alliance to host the 13th annual Military Culinary Competition. More than 50 active duty military from around the world will be competing in teams during hand-to-pan competition. There will also be a special meet and greet with Chef Robert Irvine from 1 to 3 p.m. He will be signing copies of his newest book, "Fit Fuel: A Chef's Guide to Eating Well, Getting Fit, and Living Your Best Life." The book will be available for purchase for $29.99 at the event. Competition will take place from 7 aa.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Trinidad Pavilion. Admission is free. Refreshments available for purchase.

POSTCARDS AT GRAND BAZAAR SHOPS -- NOV. 11-13
Visitors to Grand Bazaar Shops in front of Ballys are invited to sign special postcards that will be delivered to local veterans groups by USO Las Vegas. There will be an outpost with the postcards near the entrance to the shops off Las Vegas Boulevard. Guests can visit the outpost to learn more about USO Las Vegas and its programs to help veterans and troops deployed overseas, make a donation and write a thank you postcard thanking veterans for their service. Guests who make a minimum $10 donation to USO Las Vegas will receive a $10 Grand Bazaar Shops shopping voucher to use at virtually any Grand Bazaar Shops store as a thank you for their support. There will also be complimentary caricatures and temporary tattoos.

VETERANS DAY TRIBUTE WALL -- FIESTA HENDERSON
Fiesta Henderson has a Veterans Day Tribute Wall up now through Veterans Day on the second floor next to the buffet. Guests are encouraged to sign it in support of those who have served, and the property has had the wall for four or five years now.

Admission is free today at all national parks.

FREE APPETIZER FROM CARRABBA'S ITALIAN GRILL -- NOV. 11 
All veterans and active duty military will receive a free appetizer from Carrabba's on Nov. 11 with proper ID.

FREE ADMISSION/DRINK AT HYDE BELLAGIO -- NOV. 11
Hyde Bellagio will celebrate Veterans Day by offering all military personnel with a valid military I.D. complimentary admission and drink tickets throughout the night.

FREE ADMISSION TO SHARK REEF -- NOV. 11-13
All active and retired military will receive free admission to the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay with valid ID. Dependents will be admitted for $10 each with a valid ID. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Nov. 11 and 12 and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 13.

FREE ADMISSION TO SIEGFRIED & ROY'S SECRET GARDEN -- NOV. 8-13
All active and retired military will receive free admission to the Secret Garden at The Mirage. Family members who carry dependent and spouse ID cards will receive a $5 discount. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

FREE ADMISSION TO THE ADVENTURE DOME AT CIRCUS CIRCUS -- NOV. 11
All active military personnel with a valid ID will receive 40 percent off all-day ride passes for the Adventuredome at Circus Circus. This offer is good for up to four people per veteran. Hours are 10 a.m. to midnight.

FREE PANCAKES AT IHOP -- NOV. 11
IHOP is offering free Red, White, & Blue Pancakes to all veterans and active duty military this Veterans Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at participating restaurants. All veterans and active duty military will receive IHOP's world famous Buttermilk Pancakes with glazed strawberries, blueberry compote and whipped topping for free.

FREE SLICE OF PIE FROM COCO'S BAKERY -- NOV. 11
Veterans and active duty military will receive a free slice of pie on Nov. 11.

BOGO AT CHIPOTLE -- NOV. 11
Chipotle is offering a buy one item, get one free deal for its burritos, bowls, salads and tacos from 3 pm. to close at all of its locations. The deal is for reservists, National Guard members, military spouses and retired military with a valid U.S. military ID or veterans ID card. In-store only, limited to one free menu item. Purchased entrée must be of equal or greater value.

Chateau Nightclub & Rooftop at Paris Las Vegas will honor Veterans Day by offering complimentary admission with military ID to veterans and active-duty military on  Nov. 11.

All veterans and active duty military will receive a free Red's Tavern Double Burger and Bottomless Steak Fries. No purchase necessary. Most show proof of service.

FREE PIZZA FROM CHUCK E. CHEESE'S -- NOV. 11
Free, one-topping pizza for all active and retired military members at participating Chuck E. Cheese's.

FREE SLICE OF CAKE AT CRACKER BARREL -- NOV. 11
Military veterans will receive a complimentary slice of Cracker Barrel's Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola Cake on Nov. 11.

FREE HAIRCUT AT GREAT CLIPS -- NOV. 11
Free haircut on Nov. 11 for military members and veterans, or a “free haircut card” to redeem later (through Dec. 31) with proof of military service, at any Great Clips salon. Also, all customers who get a haircut on that day can get a "free haircut card" to give to a military member or veteran to redeem with proof of service through Dec. 31.  

FREE APPETIZER OR DESSERT AT RED LOBSTER -- NOV. 11
In honor of Veterans Day, and to thank veterans, active duty military and reservists for their service, Red Lobster is offering a free appetizer or dessert on Nov. 10 and 11. Guests only need to show a valid military ID or proof of service to redeem this offer.

FREE BUFFET AT GOLDEN CORAL -- NOV. 14
All locations of Golden Corral are offering a free thank you dinner to any person who has served or is serving in the U.S. military.

Medley Buffet at Aliante Casino + Hotel + Spa is offering a free breakfast or lunch buffet to active and retired military all day on Veteran's Day.

FREE BUFFET AT STATION CASINOS -- NOV. 11
All Station Casinos’ buffets invite veterans to enjoy a free meal for Veterans Day, Nov. 11. All members of the military are welcome to choose breakfast, lunch or dinner. Just swipe your military Boarding Pass at any kiosk to redeem voucher. The free meal is available inside the buffets at Red Rock Resort, Green Valley Ranch Resort, Palms Casino Resort, Santa Fe Station, Texas Station, Fiesta Rancho, Boulder Station, Fiesta Henderson, Sunset Station or Palace Station.

FREE ENTREE AT MIMI'S CAFE -- NOV. 11
Mimi's Cafe will be offering a free entree from their special Veterans Day menu to all veterans and active duty personnel on Nov. 11. Choices include grilled chicken and frites, chicken chop salad, brioche cheeseburger and farmhouse tacos.  On Nov. 12 and 13, veterans and active duty military will also receive their choice of breakfast, lunch or dinner entrees on the ‘Veterans Day’ menu for a special price of only $5.99 with the purchase of any non-alcoholic beverage. VETERANS DAY AT TOPGOLF -- NOV. 11
Topgolf Las Vegas has partnered with Folds of Honor. This Veterans Day, Topgolf is sponsoring a Patriot Golf Day to fundraise for scholarships for children and spouses of fallen or disabled service members. Topgolf guests can ask their Bay Host to add a donation to Folds of Honor on their check all day on Nov. 11. Veterans and active-duty military members will also be provided a free Heroes Membership upon presenting valid I.D. which offers year-round discounts off of game play at all Topgolf locations.

FREE CHILI DOG MEAL AT WIENERSCHNITZEL -- NOV 11 
Wienerschnitzel will be saluting veterans and active duty military with a free chili dog, small fry and 20 oz. drink offer on Nov. 11. Participating locations only. Must provide proof of service.

FREE ENTREE AT OLIVE GARDEN -- NOV. 11
On Veterans Day, Olive Garden restaurants will offer a free entrée from a special menu to active-duty military and military veterans. The special menu features six of Olive Garden’s most popular items. Entrées are served with unlimited homemade soup or famous house salad and warm, garlic breadsticks.

FREE CUSTARD FROM SHAKE SHACK -- NOV. 11
Veterans receive a free scoop of custard from Shake Shack (Downtown Summerlin and New York-New York)

FREE COMBO AT ON THE BORDER -- NOV. 11
On the Border wants to give back to veterans and active military by giving them a free Create Your Own Combo (Choose 2 or Choose 3) on Nov. 11. The combos feature a choice of On the Border classics, enchiladas, soup/salad, or tacos. Each combo also includes Mexican rice and your choice of beans. Of course, the complimentary endless chips and house-made salsa will also be served all day on Veterans Day, like they are every day. To thank the nation’s heroes for their courageous service and dedication, Denny’s is inviting active, inactive and retired military personnel to stop by for a free Build Your Own Grand Slam® on Nov. 11, from 5 a.m. to noon. Participating locations. Must have valid military ID.

FREE SHRIMP AT BONEFISH GRILL -- NOV. 11
On Nov. 11, all active and retired service members with a valid military ID will receive a Complimentary Bang Bang Shrimp at all Bonefish Grill locations. A signature dish at Bonefish Grill, Bang Bang Shrimp features crispy shrimp tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce – it’s a true guest favorite.

FREE BLOOMIN' ONION AND BEVERAGE FROM OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE -- NOV. 11
Outback Steakhouse is again honoring all active and retired military members with a free Bloomin' Onion and a beverage on Nov. 11. VETERANS DAY AT THE PLAZA -- NOV. 11
The Plaza Hotel & Casino, a proud member of the local Thunderbird Chapter of the Air Force Association’s Community Partner program benefiting the Nellis/Creech Air Force Base, is grateful for the service of our nation’s dedicated veterans and will offer numerous specials on Veterans Day. Any veteran or active duty member can receive free show tickets to see the Scintas perform on Nov. 11 and 12. All active and retired military personnel with a valid ID and their family members receive 2-for-1 admission to CSI: The Experience at MGM Grand. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Pancho’s will offer veterans and active-duty service members who show a valid military ID will receive a 25 percent discount off their total bill. TWO-FOR-ONE TICKETS TO LOU GRAMM -- NOV. 11
In honor of Veterans Day, Golden Nugget is offering veterans and military two-for-one tickets to a concert by  Lou Gramm, former lead singer for the group Foreigner. The concert is taking place on Nov. 11. Must present a VA or military identification card.
