The 16-foot Blue Angel statue at 2110 Fremont Street was taken down on Wednesday after standing for 61 years.

The City of Las Vegas says that the statue is going to be refurbished by the City Centennial Commission. The money will come from Centennial license plates.

Councilman Bob Coffin is the driving force behind the project, City officials say. The statue will be re-installed on the median near Fremont Street and Charleston Boulevard within the next six months.
