Back-to-school fairs, events and deals for students, teachers in Las Vegas for 2018-19 school year

Back-to-school fairs have been planned ahead of the fast approaching 2018-19 school year.

Cox Las Vegas, in partnership with presenting sponsor Naqvi Injury Law, will be conducting its 11th annual Cox Back-to-School Fairs.

This year, school required immunizations will only be offered at Meadows Mall. Immunizations provided by Wal-Mart Pharmacy, Immunize Nevada and Nevada WebIZ. Cost ranges from no co-pay to low-fee and no charge depending on a family’s insurance status. Immunize Nevada will have immunization information available at all four fairs. 

The final date for the 2018 Cox Back to School Fairs is:

  • Sat., Aug 11: Galleria at Sunset, 1300 W. Sunset Rd. 

All Cox Back to School Fairs are open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. 

LOOK Style Society is hosting a back-to-school supply drive through Friday, Aug. 17. LOOK Style Society is accepting cash and school supplies donations at both salon locations (Town Square and Tivoli). The salon is encouraging the public to bring the following school supplies to contribute to the drive: binders – one-and-two-inch, dry-erase markers, single subject spiral notebooks – wide ruled, folders with pockets and loose-leaf paper. On Friday, Aug. 10, stylists will be on-site at C.H. Decker Elementary School to give free back-to-school haircuts to any and all children during their Meet the Teacher event at 2 p.m. 

Town Square is offering a back-to-school deal. Through Aug. 11, if you bring any receipts totaling $100 from a Town Square apparel store to the concierge, you'll get a free $25 Town Square gift card.

The Clark County Fire Department is hosting a back-to-school-themed community open house on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fire Station 33, located at 865 E. Desert Inn Road, 89169 near Joe W. Brown Drive. There will be free backpacks & school supplies available at the open house while supplies last. Saturday’s open house will feature “jaws of life” demonstrations to show equipment used to remove victims from car crashes. There will be a children’s fishing derby and tours of the fire station, vehicles, and the Department of Building and Fire Prevention’s safety house.  

FirstMed Health and Wellness Centers, in conjunction with SilverSummit Healthplan and its partners, will host free back-to-school immunization clinics on Aug. 11 to help families meet Nevada’s immunization requirements and prepare kids for the coming school year. 

Immunizations will be provided at no cost and on a first-come, first-served basis to Medicaid eligible, uninsured and underinsured school-age children and adolescents. Available immunizations protect against many communicable diseases including mumps, hepatitis A and B, and Varicella (chicken pox). Children attending school in Clark County must be immunized against pertussis (whooping cough) before they can attend kindergarten and prior to entering the 7th grade.

In addition to immunizations, other health services including dental education, vision screenings and Medicaid application and enrollment assistance will be offered during all of the back-to-school events.

Immunize Nevada is partnering with the Southern Nevada Health District and offering free or low-cost immunizations and other back-to-school services at Give Kids a Boost Back-to-School Shots & Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, at the health district, 280 S. Decatur Blvd. Immunizations are available for insured and uninsured children & teens under the age of 19 on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Those with insurance, including Nevada Checkup and Medicaid, should bring their insurance cards. Parents should bring their child’s immunization records if available.

fresh52 Farmers’ and Artisan Market joins markets across the country in celebrating National Farmers Market Week from August 5-11 and healthy back-to-school activities. The festivities begin at Inspirada’s Solista Park (2000 Via Firenze) on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with tastings, giveaways, free food, free back-to-school crafts for the kids, and more. The fun continues on Sunday, Aug. 12, at Sansone Park Place (9480 S. Eastern Avenue) from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with more of the same offerings, all tailored to celebrate local farmers, small businesses, and healthy living.

The Las Vegas Domino’s store located at 2085 N. Jones Blvd. is collecting school supplies for kids in need Aug. 11-12. Customers are encouraged to drop off new school supplies – ranging from pencils and crayons to backpacks, rulers and more – at the store during this timeframe. Customers who bring in four items are eligible for a special offer for one large one-topping Hand Tossed pizza for $5.99. 

A coalition of Las Vegas nightlife industry veterans have teamed up for a back-to-school drive focused on aiding local homeless teenagers. For the second consecutive year, Matthew Lindsey, Kalika Moquin and Jack Colton have announced a clothing and school supplies drive in collaboration with Project 150. Set to take place on Sunday, Aug. 12, the event will begin at Camden Social Lounge inside the Palms Casino from 6-9 p.m. where donations of new or gently used clothing items as well as new school supplies and hygiene products will be accepted. The venue will have live DJs performing and offer a complimentary cocktails to all who donate during the event. Afterward, as a further thank you, Brenden Theatres will host a screening of Mission Impossible: Fallout, followed by admission to Apex Social Club, both also located at Palms.

Sharky’s invites the family during the first week of school (Aug. 12-17) to any Las Vegas location and receive one free kid’s meal with the purchase of one entrée. Kids ages 10 and under can enjoy their very own power plate with chicken, tofu or salmon with two side choices of rice, beans, broccoli, yams or grilled vegetables; cheese quesadillas; bean and cheese burritos; chicken and cheese roll ups made with organic flour tortillas; and nachos. Beverage options include a kid’s soda, organic milk or an Organic Honest Kids drink.

On Saturday, Aug. 18, Galleria at Sunset will host a back-to-school themed Kids Club for those children 0-5 years of age. Happening from 10 to 11 a.m. in the lower level Kohl’s, the free event will celebrate the back-to-school month with special guests, kid-friendly and educational activities, arts and crafts, giveaways and live entertainment. 

Entertainers Clint Holmes and Earl Turner are giving back to the “Soundtrack” of the Las Vegas education system. All Clark County teachers and school administrators with valid CCSD identification will receive two free tickets to an August performance of Soundtrack: Your Songs. Our Stories. The Show at Westgate hotel-casino. All performances begin at 7 p.m. and tickets can be picked up at the Westgate Box Office, in advance or the day of the performance.
