LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — In celebration of World Oceans Day, the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay and Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage invite guests to learn about protecting the world’s oceans in the beginning of June.

The event at the aquarium will run on June 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is expected to share what can be done to make a positive impact on marine life inhabitants with this year’s theme focusing on preventing plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean, according to an event press release.

Visitors at the Shark Reef Aquarium can visit green sea turtles, sawfish, sharks and more than 2,000 other animals in the exhibit.

Aquatic artwork by Wyland Galleries will also be on display along with painting demonstrations in the Shark Reef Aquarium’s Seascape Ballroom.

Conservation partners who will be present to share messages on actions individuals can take to make a difference include The Nature Conservancy, Reef Check, The Las Vegas Natural History Museum, and Republic Services.

A spokesperson for the event said behind-the-scene tours will be offered every half-hour that will provide a glimpse into the complexity and challenges of creating the Shark Reef Aquarium on the Las Vegas Strip.

Over at the Mirage hotel-casino at the Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat guests are invited to come face to face with exotic animals which include a family of bottlenose dolphins, white tigers, white lions and leopards.

These exhibits are scheduled to run June 7-9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

An array of scheduled educational activities will also be offered such as “Seaside Search and Find,” “Sea Life Bingo,” “Selfies for the Sea” and “Better Bag Challenge,” - allowing guests to create reusable bags.

Further informational stations in the Sustainability Discovery Center will provide knowledge about water conservation, plastic pollution, marine debris, and how daily decisions can significantly impact the world’s oceans.
