13 things to do in the Las Vegas valley for Aug. 3-9:

1. The new show "Opium" at The Cosmopolitan is described as a "close encounter with a spaceship of fools." Join the cast on their wacky journey towards earth.

2. The all-female psychedelic doom metal band High Priestess will perform Aug. 3 at Beauty Bar. The band is known for their hypnotic music with lush harmonies, dynamic crescendos, crushing riffs and soaring improv sections.

3. The official Star Trek Convention is happening this weekend at the Rio in Las Vegas. This year's convention features 3 Star Trek captains and a salute to the 25th anniversary of Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

4. Families are invited to a free showing of "Spark: A Space Tail" at 8 p.m. Aug. 3 at Eldorado Park in the city of North Las Vegas. Arrive early to enjoy free bounce houses and family activities.

5. The Underground Distillery at The Mob Museum is offering free presentations and self-guided tours Thursdays through Saturdays. All ages welcome but must be 21 to sample moonshine.

6. The American rock band Train performs Aug. 3 in the Pearl Concert Theater at The Palms. Train's biggest hits include "Calling All Angels" and "Meet Virginia."

7. The Gala of the Royal Horses is happening Aug. 3 and 4 at South Point Arena & Equestrian Center. The gala will feature performances by Lipizzaner stallions, the Spanish Andalusian, Friesians, Quarter Horses and majestic Arabians.

8. It's all about Disney on Aug. 4 at DISCOVERY Children's Museum. There will Disney trivia, karaoke, Disney-inspired art projects, a scavenger hunt and more. All ages welcome.

9. The Porch at Hooters Casino Hotel is hosting free movie screens every Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in August. The first movie will be "Blue Crush" on Aug. 4. There will be games such as foosball and corn hole, buckets of beer, pizza and floaties available.

10. The next Downtown Las Vegas Vegan Tour is happening Aug. 4. Hungry guests will have the chance to visit 2 all-vegan spots and vegan-friendly restaurants with Vegans, Baby.

11. GO Pool Dayclub at Flamingo Las Vegas is hosting the biggest pool party of the summer on Aug. 4. There will be a special live performance by singer, songwriter and producer Ne-Yo.

12. The legendary singer, songwriter and producer Stevie Wonder is bringing "The Stevie Wonder Song Party: A Celebration of Life, Love and Music" to the Park Theater on Aug. 3, 4, 8, 10 and 11.

13. The Kingdom Hearts Orchestra is stopping at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino during its world tour on Aug. 5. The performance features a full orchestra and choir performing the beloved classic songs of the game.
