NYE COUNTY (KTNV) — The Nye County Sheriff's Office says that about 40 people made an attempt to "storm" Area 51 from Amargosa Valley overnight.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the Area 51 Alien Center on Route 373 around 3 a.m.
Upon arrival, they were greeted by a gathering of several dozen people. The crowd dispersed upon request but broke into groups and went to two nearby gates for the Nevada National Security Site.
Deputies confronted the people at both gates and were eventually able to persuade them to leave.

The Area 51 Alien Center was originally listed as the meeting place on the viral Facebook event that let to millions of people saying they would storm the classified military base.
However, Area 51 is located just outside the NNSS to the east.
After the event creator realized his mistake, he changed the meeting to Rachel, the closest town to Area 51.
