Las Vegas has cracked the top 20 for malware and ransomware attacks.
The infection rate is 187 percent above the national average, according to Enigma Software Group.
Ransomware locks away valuable data, such as personal photos and videos, and holds them hostage until a user pays the ransom to get it back.
Enigma Software offered the following tips to protect your data against ransomware:
- Regularly back up your data. Use an external device, cloud storage, or both. Backups allow you to retrieve your data if you get an infection.
- Update all software and operating system. The most current programs are best equipped to fight computer viruses.
- Don't click unknown links. Almost all ransomware infections come from bogus emails, hijacked social media accounts, and other malicious sources over the internet.
- Enable spam detection. And update your anti-virus programs whenever possible.
