LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The internet has been buzzing with talk of storming Area 51, in Rachel, Nevada later this year, leaving many residents on edge of the impending rush of people.
The small town with a population of 54 is bracing for a massive influx of tourists on Sept. 20 thanks to a viral campaign to storm Area 51 that has garnered more than 2 million RSVPs on its Facebook event page.
Rachel is the closest habitation to the U.S. Air Force Base within the Nevada Test and Training Range long-rumored to contain evidence of UFOs and extraterrestrial life.
The Belize Tourism Board, a tiny country that knows a thing or two about visitors coming in droves, is offering apprehensive Rachel residents a free retreat that includes airfare and hotel accommodations (from Sept. 19-21) to ensure they can be out of town and relaxing in Belize while avoiding whatever should come of the Sept. 20 event.
To claim the offer, Rachel, Nevada residents 18 years of age or older must send an email rachelnevadaretreat@gmail.com and be able to provide proof of legal residence.
The deadline to claim the offer is 10:59 p.m. on Aug. 8.
