A valley family moved into their home near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road less than two weeks ago, only to find out, the last tenants left it infested with bed bugs.

13 Action News learned the problem is even more widespread in the valley too.

Shellie, who does not want to reveal her last name, has only lived her new home for 11 days. And already, she has dozens of bed bugs.

"I literally just moved in," she said. "I've never had a bite. Never had a problem. Never had anything!"

Shellie says the bug issue is not her family's fault. Instead, she blames the last people who lived in the home.

"The people that were living here prior had moved out in such a rush, that they left some of their belonging."

Those belongings happened to have bed bugs crawling all over them. Now, Shellie has called Red Rock Pest Control to take care of the problem.

"The majority of the time, they (bed bugs) are on your mattress," said John Zuasola with Red Rock Pest Control. "But they are finding them in different places like their couches, their rugs, their shelves, and cabinets as well."

Red Rock Pest Control says they've received an extremely high volume of calls regarding bed bugs, even calling it an unusual number.

"By the time they figure out they have bed bugs, it's an infestation already," said Zuasola.
