Woman identified in April 6 fatal crash

Posted

A Las Vegas woman has been identified in a fatal crash earlier this month.

61-year-old Debra Jean Helton died in the crash April 6 at the intersection of Lamb Boulevard and Moonlight Drive.

Police said a GMC Sierra was traveling southbound on Lamb, proceeding through the intersection
with Moonlight Drive while a Nissan Altima was going northbound on Lamb Boulevard, attempting to make a left turn onto Moonlight Drive. The Nissan made the left turn, failing to yield the right of way, which resulted in the crash.

A traffic officer was dispatched to the scene, completed a report and he described the vehicle damage as moderate. There were no claimed injuries -- no paramedics were called -- and both vehicles were driven away from the scene.

However, 2.5 hours later at 10:11 a.m., the driver of the GMC was transported by ambulance to
Sunrise Trauma and pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Fatal Detail did not respond to the collision scene and conduct an investigation.

On Thursday, April 28, the Fatal Detail received the reports from the Clark County coroner which showed the cause of death was a result of blunt force chest trauma due to motor vehicle collision.

This was the 35th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction for 2016. The crash remains under investigation.
