A woman faces a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge in the death of a North Las Vegas police officer in 2017.
Detective Chad Parque was killed in a crash near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Carey Avenue involving a wrong-way driver on Jan. 6, 2017.
That driver has now been identified as Kokoe Akouete-Ekoue. According to a criminal complaint filed in September, the crash was caused "through an act or omission that constitutes simple negligence."
North Las Vegas police initially pursued felony charges.
Akouete-Ekoue's next court date is scheduled for March 1 at Las Vegas Justice Court. It's being held in Las Vegas, rather than North Las Vegas, because of a change in venue due to the fact that since Parque worked closely with the judges there and wouldn't get a fair hearing there.
