LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A local business owner is hoping you'll be able to recognize a woman caught burglarizing his store near the Las Vegas Strip in July.
When you walk through the doors of Makes Cents Variety Store near Sammy Davis Junior and Charleston Boulevard, you’ll be in for a blast from the past.
“We love to see the look on your face, to see those memories, the flashbacks in your mind,” says Chuck Deau, owner.
Retro video game systems, pinball machines, and countless collector’s items can be found inside.
It’s product that owner Chuck Deau has been collecting for years.
“Upset would be the least of the words I could use,” says Deau.
On July 17, a woman caught on store surveillance cameras helped herself to whatever she could grab inside.
Deau says she was able to get in after trying to open the door repeatedly.
Unfortunately the lock had not been completely turned the night before.
“She basically crawls on her hands and knees like an animal, to avoid the windows and casually slides open every case and helps herself,” says Deau. “She has the nerve to take her own bags and bag up all her product and walk out the door.”
Deau says he’s lost thousands of dollars in merchandise after only opening up the store six months ago.
The loss to this family own business packs a painful punch.
“It makes you want mad, it makes you want to quit and lash out and take the filter off,” says Deau.
Deau is staying strong, hoping the community will identify the woman and get her off the streets before she does the same to another family business.
“I don’t think it was a crime of need, it was a crime of opportunity, i can get over on someone and they’re not going to catch me but she didn’t know I was Chuck Deau and I’m not going to give up.”
Las Vegas Police are investigating the burglary and no arrests have been made yet.
