Reno man on house arrest for rest of opioid penalty

Posted

The ex-general manager of a Reno car dealership who was convicted in an illegal opioid ring has been released from the Washoe County Jail where he's been held for nearly two years.

Richard "Richie" West will be on house arrest for the next 16 months.

He was sentenced last month to two years after pleading guilty to a drug conspiracy charge. But the judge gave him credit for time served as part of a plea deal in which West agreed testify against the doctor who was providing the painkillers.

Dr. Robert Rand was sentenced in November to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to drug charges and involuntary manslaughter in the death of a man he'd provided pills.

West's lawyer, David Houston, told the Reno Gazette-Journal West was released from jail Tuesday to an in-patient drug rehabilitation program.
