LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A passenger on a Spirit Airlines flight was caught blurting out a series of racist insults at an older woman for being in the way.
It's unclear what happened in the minutes before the video started recording, but the person who recorded the video told 13 Action News about the incident.
Courtney Potter said the woman was upset at another woman for not moving out of the way fast enough.
"As we landed, we were deboarding, but they hadn't opened the doors yet, and she was getting very angry - she was trying to walk against the flow of traffic,” said Potter.
The shouting went on for minutes but Potter, who lives in Oregon, only caught 30 seconds of it on her phone. She was one of many waiting to do a layover at McCarran International Airport.
“She had pushed an older woman in front of us, and then, the lady that was sitting next to me said, 'Hey, stop this. You can't do that.’ Then spat her face," said Potter.
13 Action News showed the video to psychologist Aaron Williams; he specializes in relationships.
"You have a lot of people that are walking around, driving around with just a fuse that's ready to explode at any time," said Williams.
People are quick to start recording confrontations, but Williams encourages people to offer help if it’s safe to do so.
"First hearing them and then let them know how someone else is offended by [their] outburst, [the] behavior that’s bothering you," said Williams.
13 Action News reached out to Spirit Airlines, in a statement they said the incident is under investigation, the and that safety is their top priority.
Lastly, once they have determined who that passenger was, the passenger in the video will no longer be able to fly on Spirit Airlines.
